Definition<\/strong> : Two set A and B are said to be disjoint, if \\(A \\cap B\\) = \\(\\phi\\).<\/p>\n

If \\(A \\cap B\\) \\(\\ne\\) \\(\\phi\\), then A and B are said to be intersecting or overlapping sets.<\/p>\n

Venn Diagram of Disjoint Set<\/h2>\n

Example<\/strong><\/span> : If A = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}, B = {7, 8, 9, 10, 11} and C = {6, 8, 10, 12, 14}. Then find which of the following two set are disjoint.<\/p>\n

Solution<\/strong><\/span> : We have sets A, B and C,<\/p>\n

Taking intersection of set A and B,<\/p>\n

\\(A \\cap B\\) = \\(\\phi\\)<\/p>\n

Hence, A and B are Disjoint Sets.<\/p>\n

Now, \\(A \\cap C\\) = {6}<\/p>\n

Since A intersection C is not \\(\\phi\\). So, they are intersecting sets.<\/p>\n

Now, \\(B \\cap C\\) = {8, 10}<\/p>\n
